I don’t usually post stories or videos that I create at work on my personal web sites, but I do like this Russian oneMoscow in Photos: 12 Reasons Why We Love Red Square and the Kremlin,” published today.  I loved living and working in Moscow:  under Brezhnev and communism, under Gorbachev and perestroika, under Yeltsin and upheaval, and now visiting there under Putin and politics. I can’t begin to count the number of times I visited UNESCO-listed Red Square and the adjacent Kremlin, yet I still get chills at the sight of those crazy-colored onion domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral, the icon of Red Square and of Russia.

It seemed effortless putting this massive story together.  I found and sweetened all the photos; several are my vintage photos from long ago.  I also shot and edited my videos of the bell-ringing at historic Kazan Cathedral (the “pink church”) in Red Square, and of course the research, writing and HTML anchor–linking are all my own. The only struggle was being asked to remove all the Russian Cyrillic words I had added to describe places, like Красная площадь (Red Square) or Кремль (Kremlin). Whatever.

This massive Lenin banner goes WAY back to the 1980s, when I was a student in the U.S.S.R. and witnessed the great November 7th parade in Red Square <br data-recalc-dims=

At work, they SEO-titled it Moscow in Photos: 12 Reasons Why We Love Red Square and the Kremlin,  but I would probably call it  – with no consideration to SEO – “Why I Keep Falling in Love with Moscow,” or something like “To Russia, With Love.”

Oops, that one’s already taken, I know. 😉

Anyway, if you want to dive into all that I love about Moscow, here’s the story.
